A quarantined birthday
For the last month I was trying to explain to Shani that she would be three soon, but she thought it wasn’t fair that Kyla was turning five and she was only turning 3. If someone said “Shani, you’ll be three soon!” she’d always respond with “no five. I’ll be five soon”. A week before her birthday she still wouldn’t admit that she was going to be 3 but instead 4. The day before her birthday Sam came in and said “Shani can you say: Tengo tres anos?” and Shani replied “No, cuatro”. Oh well.
A few days before Shani’s birthday she came down with a fever so she, Kyla and myself had to stay in the room away from the rest of the children. Her birthday came but we were still stuck in the room.
She made a necklace with three of each type of bead on it and with the number three. (she finally accepted the fact that she was three…soon to be four)
Lunch was peanut butter sandwiches, Shani’s favorite. Perfect! I cut it into a circle and put 3 little candles on it. The other kids asked me what I was doing and I told them it was Shani’s birthday.

The girls put on their dress up clothes over their PJs and were sitting outside having tea and popcorn for snack (their choice). The other kids came out and performed “happy birthday” songs for them.

After their cute, foolish, and sweet songs were over they each gave Shani a card or two (at a careful distance). They also gave some “get well” cards to Kyla. Evan (8 years old) got a prophecy for Shani from Jesus. That was her favorite. She asked me to read it over and over and over again. So sweet!

“Thank you kids! You really made Shani’s birthday special! It’s so wonderful to be in a home with such kind and loving children. I love you kiddos!”
After that they watched a special movie. They also got a big box of mega blocks from Grandmother and Grandfather. “Thank you so much Doug and Jean! The girls are playing with it nonstop. We love you!”
Happy Birthday Kyla and Shani!
sniffle I remember when Shani was a teeny little thing, and how we bonded on so many levels during that New Years trip…good times.
Thanks for posting this. Happy Birthday to Shani and Kyla — I’m proud of them all.
They are so gorgeous Tammy and what a sweet birthday
