Little bits of heaven
Life has been busy, occasionaly hectic, sometimes a little bit crazy, but generally a whole lot of fun. On Easter Sunday, over a month ago now, Tammy, Shani, Kyla and I went to the park, along with half of our small town. (The place was packed.) We found an empty picnic table on the edge of the park and enjoyed a simple picnic together. Even though the park was overflowing with excited activity, my mind was quieted, and my spirit relaxed. Kyla’s exuberance and unmetered affection reminded me of the higher absolutes which are so easily forgotten admist the numerous details of every day life. Later she listened with concerned attention to her bedtime story of the kind and loving Saviour Who had been hurt and killed and then clapped with sincere delight as we read about how He rose to life again after three days.
Shani is starting to blabber more, and I think she’s going to start talking at a much younger age than Kyla did. She’s also becoming more independent and demanding. (She just woke up from a nap and is peaking at me over the top of her crib.) Having two children presents us with new challenges at every turn, but I can say with complete conviction that I wouldn’t want it any other way. I’m not as sure about three, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
We went to Sea World San Diego May 1st, with most of the rest of the area. It was a special “Education Day” where they allow Home Schooling Groups to come in for $6 per person. It was lots of fun, Kyla got to see the Sea Lion and Dolphin shows, and we watched Shamu from a distance.
During the dolphin show we sat on the edge of the “soak zone”, and sure enough we got soaked on the first round of splashes. Kyla didn’t think it was very funny though, so I took her up the bleachers and we stood at the top and watched the rest of the show.
Afterwards she was talking animatedly about the dolphins, “Silly dolphins, splash me! Ha ha!” I asked her “Did you like the dolphins?” she immeadiately replied “Yes! Where are they? I going to miss them!” She stared in stunned silence at the sharks in the underwater tunnel, cheered for the sea lions while they performed their show, blasted mommy with the water cannons on the “Shipwreck Reef” ride, had an unexpected up close and personal encounter with a couple of river otters, and much more. A very memorable day.
